Global Recruiting staff for Nike recently came to Jefferson seeking designers for the company’s Summer Internship Program. The in-person event included a presentation about the design-driven methodology of Nike, portfolio and interview recommendations and 1 on 1 portfolio reviews for selected students. Andy Croll, of Nike global design recruitment, and Wevly Wilson, Nike senior recruiter of design, gave an engaging presentation and led the portfolio reviews and discussion.
In their presentation, Andy and Wevly described exactly what Nike looks for in a design portfolio as well as what to expect in their hiring process. “I’m preparing to graduate and I’m starting to look at my career opportunities more. I was interested in hearing what a celebrated company like Nike expects in designers’ portfolios & resumes.” said senior industrial design student, Riley Molway.
For all designers attending, the presentation consisted of substantial information regarding portfolio content and how to convey your designs to specific audiences. Nike has a proactive recruitment model and they are passionate about building relationships with students. The speakers emphasized it’s truly beneficial for designers to put themselves — and keep themselves — on Nike’s radar. “How you aim the product concept and bring your flair is how you separate yourself” said Andy. “Be bold, be courageous, show passion, and go for it!”
