Lavinia Biagiotti Unveils F/W 2021-2022 Collection for International Women’s Day

For International Women’s Day 2021, the Thomas Jefferson Fashion Design department is highlighting the work of Italian designer Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna. Lavinia was presented the Award of Merit by the university in Fall 2019 when she visited with students for a lecture entitled An Italian Story – Three Generations of Women Designing the FutureThe designer continues to be a good friend of the university, and supporter of design education.

Lavinia Biagiotti is CEO and President of the Biagiotti Group. Born in Rome, she is a third generation fashion designer for the group which was founded in 1965 by her grandmother Delia Biagiotti. Her mother Laura brought international recognition to the Biagiotti Group with the Laura Biagiotti label, which Lavinia continues to design and manage to this day. Since the beginnings of Biagiotti Group, sustainability and cross-cultural connection have been integral to the brand. Although the family is dedicated to preserving Italian art and culture, Laura Biagiotti understood fashion’s power to transcend language barriers, and pioneered early fashion connections with both Russia and China.

The Biagiotti Group, and Lavinia in particular, has a strong connection and love for Italian culture. Her appreciation for Italian art and architecture is fundamental in the brand’s efforts to promote historical restorations in the city of Rome. In collaboration with Laura Biagiotti Parfums, the group has donated funds for the restoration of Scala Cordonata of Campidoglio, the Fountains of Piazza Farnese in Rome, and the donation to the Grand Curtains of the La Fenice Theater in Venice.

As the COVID pandemic continues on, Lavinia Biagiotti has continued to adapt and persevere the Biagiotti Group. About a week ago, she debuted her Fall/Winter 2021-2022 collection at the Ara Pacis Augustae, the monument commissioned by the Roman Senate in 13 BC to honor the return of Augustus to Rome. The monument serves as a symbol of prosperity after a period of suffering, which seems perfectly tuned to our current aspirations.
