Tools of the Trade: Women and Textiles in the 19th Century

On April 7th, 2022 at 6:00 – 7:30 pm EST, Jade Papa and Emily Radomski will host a hybrid event in conjunction with The Library Company of Philadelphia.

Be there for the opening event of Power & Pomp: Fashion History Month at the Library Company and the unveiling of a small exhibit in the Logan RoomJade Papa, costume historian and curator of our Textile and Costume Collection, will present the history of women’s roles in Philadelphia’s textile industries in the 19th century. Following this historical context, Emily Radomski, third-year Textile Design student and collection intern at the Textile and Costume Collection, will present tools from the collection that were actually used by some of these textile workers and explain their functions.

A collaboration between the Textile and Costume Collection at Thomas Jefferson University and The Library Company of Philadelphia.

This event is free and hybrid. Click here to register.

A big “Thank You” to all of the presenters and attendees of

Textile Design’s Spring Speakers Series!

We were wowed by the presentations made by our esteemed guests, Kristen Dettoni, alum Drew McKevitt and Suzanne Oude Hengel, and alum Topher Anderson. All the presentations were fascinating and impactful to students and faculty alike.

If you missed any of the presentations or would like to watch them again, you can do so on our YouTube page. You can find that link here: Textile Design Spring Speakers Series 2022.

Take our quick 3-question survey! We’d like to know what kind of textiles topics you’d like to see in the future!
