Textile Design Capstone Ideation 2025: A Harvest of Comfort: A Bedding Collection Rooted in Tradition

Skylar Strouss’ A Harvest of Comfort is a bedding collection that honors the craftsmanship and warmth of traditional American homesteading. Drawing inspiration from heirlooms passed down through generations, each textile will reflect a story of comfort, skill, and meticulous artistry.

The collection will explore various techniques, including handwoven fabrics, jacquard designs, and printed textiles. By blending time-honored craftsmanship with a modern perspective, each piece will offer rich textures that invite touch and capture the essence of handmade quality. The goal is to merge traditional design with contemporary techniques, creating something rooted in the past but fresh and relevant for today.

Creating a bedding collection is great, but this project is about more than just creating beautiful bedding; it’s about reviving the appreciation for handcrafted pieces. Each textile will transform the bedroom into a warm and welcoming space, with designs that are both functional and full of character. By combining artistry with practicality, Skylar aims to create pieces that will enhance the look and feel of any home and be cherished as keepsakes for years to come. While this may seem a beautifully foolish endeavor, this collection is an absolutely remarkable thing to those who yearn for roots.

With this collection, the intention is to remind us of the value of craftsmanship and the joy that comes with owning something made by hand, ensuring that each piece is a reflection of the care and attention given to its creation.
