MSID Student Designs Timely Finger Protector

The principles learned in the Jefferson MSID program enable students to make a difference every day. Recently, MSID student Lauren Huggler created a simple and ingenious solution for preventing the spread of germs on elevator buttons.

She designed a dispenser that uses cellophane tape to create a covering for each elevator user’s finger. The tape provides a barrier when selecting both the exterior and interior buttons. It’s a straightforward design that works surprisingly well.

A run of just-completed dispensers ready to be installed.

Lauren is now in the process of  working with her building’s landlord to have one installed in each elevator on the property. To see how it works, check out the video below:
