The Textile Design and Textile Product Science programs, as the oldest textile school in the nation, were honored to welcome Philippine Consul General Senen T. Mangalile and Philippine Trade Commissioner Benedict Uy and their delegation to campus on August 29, 2023. The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country comprised of 7,641 islands in the Western Pacific. Consul General Mangalile shared the rich history, vast range, and distinctive narrative of Philippine artisanal textiles.
During the visit, the group toured the Fashion & Textiles Futures Center, with particular emphasis on state-of-the-art opportunities in the John L. Steen Power Weaving Center, the Surface Imaging Digital Printing Labs, the Electronic Knitted Textiles Center and the Jeff Bruner Materials Characterization Lab. The meeting was viewed as the start of a collaborative relationship between the Textile Design programs and the Philippine Consulate. Stay tuned for details on exciting upcoming opportunities.
