Last week’s program-wide Industrial Design Sprint Project challenged students to design new drinkware solutions for Arc International, the world’s leading glassware manufacturer.
For one week during each Spring semester, all students – undergrads and grads alike – divide into small multi-year teams for an intensive 7-day design charette addressing the brief provided by a leading industry sponsor. This year, that sponsor was Arc International.
Arc’s business-to-business glassware division issued a targeted and concise design challenge, namely, to create new drinkware solutions that maximized the characteristics of specific types of beer. The students then designed, developed and prototyped solutions that directly addressed a variety of needs in a unique way.
Key manufacturing, marketing and design staff from Arc were on hand for the project launch. They then provided individualized feedback at the mid-point of the project and returned at the end of the week for the final critique. It was great opportunity for students to gain valuable experience working directly with a variety of industry-leading professionals. Special thanks go out to everyone involved in making this year’s Sprint Project such a success!
