What to expect as a First-Year Textile Design Student

We often feature the exceptional work of our graduating seniors, grad students, and alumni, but what about first-year students? What are they making? If you are thinking about enrolling in Textile Design or perhaps, transferring in from another major, you may be wondering what to expect during your first year. Today we’ll be highlighting Textile Design I – Ideation ( TD – Ideation) taught by Becky Flax.

TD- Ideation introduces concept development (inspiration, ideation, narrative, concept boards), color and trend research, Photoshop and Illustrator, mapping skills, branding, and portfolio creation. This course provides the necessary design development skills that will support all future studio classes within Textile Design. The design industry uses the same fundamental skills on a daily basis. Right off the bat, Textile Design students are taking very valuable classes that will support them throughout their careers. The following PDFs are final presentations by TD- Ideation students from the Spring 2020 semester.
