Kravet Student Design Workshop: Influences, Innovation, and Inspiration

In partnership with Kravet, the School of Design and Engineering welcomed industry leaders in performance fabrics, interior design, textile archives, and more, for an engaging student workshop. Over 100 students participated throughout the day in textile design, interior design, industrial design, fashion design, fashion merchandising, and management, and more!

The Kravet Student Workshop started with a presentation from Scott Kravet, Chief Creative Officer of Kravet, and Lina Deeb Forrester, Creative Director of Kravet Archive. Their presentation, Threads of Time: A Journey Through Textiles, offered a glimpse into the Kravet Archive. Students were able to interact with historical textile documents and print-making tools and see how these historic items influence Kravet fabric collections today! Lina then moderated a panel on How An Archive’s History Influences Today’s Collections with Jefferson Professor and Design Center Curator, Jade Papa, along with Matthew Monk, Curator for Textiles at Winterthur, and Allie Alvis, Curator of Special Collections at Winterthur.

The workshop attendees had the opportunity to hear from various companies across the interior design spectrum. Denise Gutierrez, Design Director, Crypton Home, shared a wealth of knowledge on performance fabrics for the home. Lina Cipriano, Architectural & Design Representative for Benjamin Moore, shared the 2025 color trends for home interior paints. Sales Representative for Kravet, Mike Hayes presented what to look for regarding how fabric is applied to furniture frames. Christina Price of Main Line Window Décor shared her experience with designing window treatments.

Additional panels included Luxury Interior Designer, Podcast Host, and Construction Expert Renée Biery, leading a panel on building your brand. Rebecca Johnson of DesignPhiladelphia moderated a group of seasoned Interior Designers discussing how to create a unique space for their clients. The day wrapped up with a panel led by Kravet’s Road Sales Representative, Jacob Oxford, who spoke with interior designers about their advice for emerging designers.
