On Thursday October 9 as part of Design Philadelphia, Jefferson’s Fashion & Textiles Futures Center hosted a lecture by Liz Alessi, an expert on sustainability, generously sponsored by WM. Tracy McCann of WM began the session by sharing a video of the work that WM is doing in their first-of-its-kind Textile Recycling Center in South Carolina. Following the video, Liz shared her extensive knowledge and experience developing circular practices in the fashion and textile industries. The presentation included discussions on upcycling, recycling and downcycling of textile products, scaling alternatives for production, ethical and equitable considerations, and the range of innovations currently undertaken by leaders in this space. Students, faculty and staff across disciplines participated in the lecture.
