Textile Design Capstone Ideation 2025: Stitched & Hitched

Lola Bakhadyrova’s capstone project is creating a vibrant knit and print-wear bridal collection that challenges traditional wedding dress norms. Working as a bridal consultant for two and a half years has exposed her to the coming and going of bridal trends. While there is much versatility in the bridal space already, the one thing that seldom changes is the use of white, woven, or embroidered fabric. This collection celebrates the idea that bridal fashion doesn’t need to be confined to these traditional textiles often associated with weddings. Instead, she is presenting a contemporary take by incorporating dynamic knits and bold prints, offering a wide array of textures and colors that bring new life to the concept of a bridal gown.

Each piece in the collection blends intricate knitting techniques with vibrant, hand-designed prints, creating a blend of soft and bold textiles that are both sophisticated and playful. The use of knits adds comfort and softness that contrasts with the rigidity of traditional bridal wear, allowing for movement and ease. Meanwhile, the prints incorporate an element of personality and individuality into each design, reflecting the unique stories and styles of today’s brides.

Rather than adhering to the typical constraints of wedding dress design, this collection seeks to empower brides to express their identity on their special day. The textiles in this collection are vibrant, energetic, and, above all, reflective of the modern bride who embraces creativity and non-traditional beauty. It’s a celebration of diversity and individuality, demonstrating that bridal fashion can be just as unique as the love it represents.
