HYPERVISUAL dives into the wild, rebellious world of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s club kids—the fearless icons of self-expression who turned nightlife into an art form. I want my textiles to capture the feeling of stepping into a dark, neon-lit club where everything is pulsing, surreal, and intoxicating. One of the aspects I’m exploring is optical illusions in fabric—patterns that shift and distort, mimicking the dizzying effect of flashing lights and booming music. I’m working with a variety of techniques to create textiles that replicate the overstimulation of a club environment. In the development of my collection, I have made 3D spiked knits using short-rowing, a press-off fabric with intentional holes revealing a second layer that was knitted simultaneously, and jacquard knits designed to create optical illusions. These techniques explore texture, layering, and visual distortion to evoke the sensory experience of a nightclub environment. I plan to expand my collection with woven jacquard fabrics and prints that complement the same immersive, high-energy aesthetic. By blending nostalgia with innovation, I hope to make textiles that don’t just exist as fabrics but as experiences—ones that pull you into a world of excess, glamour, and unapologetic expression.
