Beth Shirrell
Teaches in Graphic Design Communication, Visual Communication Design & Web Design & DevelopmentBeth holds degrees in Visual Communication Design (a BFA from the University of Dayton) and Graphic and Interactive Design (an MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University). A few of her most notable teaching accomplishments include running a study abroad trip to Berlin and Prague with 25 design students, receiving a Nexus Learning grant to create graphic novels to improve health literacy for under-served international communities, guiding students in an annual 60-hour, client-driven design challenge and showcasing a student-designed exhibition on undocumented immigration in the lobby of the Pittsburgh City-Council Building. Her student work has been recognized by HOW Magazine, Adobe Design Achievement Awards, Graphis and AIGA PGH365.
Beth also maintain her own design practice. She has designed and strategized for a diverse array of clients such as The Citizen Science Lab, HOW magazine, WIRED UK, The Latika Roy Memorial Foundation and The Asia Society. Beth’s design work has been recognized regionally, nationally and internationally by Graphis, Creative Quarterly, AIGA PGH365, and AIGA World Studio. She has been featured in the publications such as Mastering Type: The Essential Guide to Typography for Print and Web Design, Fingerprint No. 2 and The Package and Design Magazine of China.
